Your Coast Watchers Photos

How does the tide select what to leave behind en masse? Sometimes razor shells, cockles – this time pretty coloured shells of the thin tellin. The creature spends its life buried in the sand. When the tide is in the tellin extends two long tubes – one to suck in food and the other to eject waste. A conundrum – have the occupants of these empty shells been eaten? How come the shells remain in perfect condition? Fascinating!
